During my career, at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, I had the opportunity to coach and mentor many employees. A couple of times it came about, because an employee found themselves on the wrong side of an issue and tried to embellish the truth. In reality, the truth wasn’t going to get them in trouble… the issues were minor, but being caught in a corner leads to bad decisions. What I shared with each of them was this; “You can be short on some character traits, and be successful in this job, but integrity is not one of them.”
Throughout my career and life, I have been conscious of how critical character traits are to your image and reputation. One of the tallest orders is to be a person of integrity. Establishing trust is paramount. When Chris Blair finds himself having to make excuses about being misunderstood or “I didn’t know” enough times does it makes folks wonder how much they can actually believe him? When Chris Blair keeps changing the story… can you trust him? We’ve experienced these things too many times during his administration, and as this campaign moves forward, we’ll be having many discussions about some of them.
The Office of Sheriff is about more than political glory, cronyism and specialty units. It is about justice, upholding rights, ensuring criminal cases are honestly presented and that the citizens receive professional, timely and dependable service. The man in charge establishes the culture of an organization. I ask you; at any point in your personal, or professional lives, has trust and integrity not been important? Is trust and integrity in your Sheriff really that important? I think it is one of the most critical character traits there is!
It’s time to restore trust in your Sheriff.
